What Should You Do During a Dental Emergency?

Fear may grab your heart in the case of a dental emergency, but remember that anxiety has no home here. Take a deep exhalation, stand up, and go on an unforgettable medical care quest that will bring you to the region of dental restoration.

• Toothache: Apply a cold compress to the outside of the painful area. You may use acetaminophen or ibuprofen according to the product directions and your healthcare provider’s advice. However, avoid placing medication directly on the tooth or gums. Also, tell your dentist which medicine you took, including the dose and time.
• Knocked-Out Tooth: Hold a permanent tooth by the crown, not the root. If it is dirty, rinse it gently without scrubbing. Next, try to place it back into the socket if you can do so safely. If this is not possible, keep the tooth in milk and contact us immediately. Do not reinsert a knocked-out baby tooth.
• Broken Tooth: Collect any tooth fragments carefully and rinse your mouth gently. If bleeding continues, apply clean gauze to the area. Then, use a cold compress to reduce pain and swelling. Contact our dental team promptly to prevent further damage.
• Dental Abscess: Rinse your mouth gently with warm salt water. Do not attempt to drain or squeeze the abscess. Because an infection may spread to nearby tissues or other areas of the body, seek urgent dental care.
• Lost Filling: Orthodontic wax or temporary dental filling material may protect the exposed area for a short time. However, this is not a permanent solution. Arrange a dental appointment promptly to restore and protect the tooth.
• Jaw Injury: Avoid solid foods and place a cold pack on the outside of your face. If you suspect a broken jaw, have difficulty breathing, or experience severe swelling, seek immediate medical attention.
